...happy birthday! Since this is the big Three-Oh, I figured it's as good a time as any to finally give you your own proper igotyouapresent.com subdomain.
...receiving your birthday gift will require beating a game. As you can probably also guess, I've opted to go for a truly terrible variation on Wordle. I call it Srordle (pronounced clumsily as Shrordle), for obvious reasons.
...it's basically normal Wordle, but with seven-letter words. Oh, and also, each guess is a different subset of those seven letters, sometimes made of multiple words.
You can guess the full seven letter word at any time, you get two chances. If you don't use the chances, they just use themselves when all the other turns are done. I tried to make the entropy similar to Wordle/Quordle, so I think it should be decently balanced?
I used a really permissive dictionary for checking if words are valid (to make the two-letter words easier), and a hand-curated list of the ~2,000 most popular 7-letter words to choose the targets from. I removed proper nouns and whatnot from the dataset, but unlike Wordle/Quordle, I left in plurals and all the words that people might find inappropriate or otherwise objectionable.
Which is all to say, you might need to think outside the box when trying to guess the word. The game actually isn't too hard if you aren't playing 'Hard Mode' style, it's nearly (perhaps literally, in some cases) impossible otherwise.
...it's a year subscription to Strava. You get up to five practice attempts on Srordle and then three legit, serious, high-stakes chances. If you lose all three of those, well, I give your Strava subscription to Lorin or Alex or something.
